Secretary’s statement

The first event following on from the last report is Yorkshire Wartime, I did not attend this years event and found similar among many of our group. Although those attending seem to have had a good time. I think the increase in distance to Doncaster and the access roads being rather rural are probably a contribution. The next ‘big one’ for us is Lytham 40’s weekend, there’s little to dislike, as Lytham St Anns is a pleasant sea side town on its own, coupled with a two day 40’s event and it’s a calendar topper. Unfortunately I was unable to attend, but the media from the event looked as good as ever.
Now on to a new event, ‘Coffee on the buffers’ as Bernie, one of our organisers named it. In collaboration with East Lancashire Railway (private railway on the old ‘Beeching’ Heywood to Rawtenstall line) we ran a successful 40’s event at Heywood railway station, with a good showing of military vehicles, period classic cars and special rate train journeys. A big thanks to Bernie and Jimmy for this one. In September several of us joined a classic car meet at Notcutts garden centre Woodford, I’m afraid I cheated a little and went in my MG as I was still fighting with the dash wiring and the infamous 6 way switch on the Lightweight. We then returned to Woodford the following week for the annual Avro Museum 40’s weekend. I’ve been to every event here since being a NWMVT member and I think this year was the best, great singers, plenty of exhibitors and traders and a well thought out display from our Mid Lancs colleagues. Later September saw us back at the spiritual home of Healey Dell for a combined event and I’m glad to report that Pete Cartner, our area secretary and well known to many of you, was in attendance in uniform and in good spirit, so pleasing for our group to see.
Sadly there is a less fortunate ending to the report, as a couple of weeks later, Peter, perhaps a tad over confident in his recovery, took a tumble down the stairs at his workshop and has cracked several ribs and at the time of writing is in hospital at N.Manchester infirmary, stable but rather sore. Further updates pending.
