What’s happening in the North West…
Pete Cartner is having a well earned break off his reporting duties, but returning soon, thanks, Pete Nutt
Pickings were getting slimmer as we moved into 2025’s final quarter. A simple, but nice October event, Shaw Classics (Peter O’Connor memorial), just outside Oldham, has always been one for my personal calendar. A classic car event with a military vehicle presence, for at least as long as I have owned one. Local for me too. The weather held, always seems to at Shaw, despite being a risky time of the year. For a local event there are great classics and the usual turnout of NWMVT members vehicles. It’s nice and compact displaying the length of the High Street (closed to through traffic) With the all important Greggs open mid way along for refreshments.

After Shaw we normally have a shortage of events, which, to be honest is not such a bad thing, as it pairs well with the willingness of aging bones to venture out as the thermometer drops.
However as remembrance day draws closer members resilience sharpens. I had to pull my partly repaired Lightweight from its slumber at the local service station for the event. Historically we have attended the very well attended ‘Ring of Red’ where thousands of motorcyclists wearing something red circumnavigate the M60 (Manchester’s orbital motorway). However owing to very bad weather experienced in 2023, the ‘over enthusiastic’ driving of some of the motorcyclists and the inability of many motorists to moderate their driving when approaching vulnerable slow open vehicles. So for the last two years we have held an alternative static commemoration at Healey Dell, the former munitions manufacturing site, our spiritual home base where we are always made welcome.
Normally our final get together of 2025, the ‘Christmas’ monthly meeting at LMRCA Stockport (1st Thursday of the month) is the final time we will get to swap anecdotes and get a bit merry. But this year Joyce & Pete hope to arranged a bonus event at a local Restaurant/entertainment venue. Lots of opportunity for candid photography for the next edition, no doubt.

We have already heard from Glossop 40’s team, such a great event in 2024 and will be returning for 2026 probably in May, keep watching the events calendar.
